GoFundArtists
Program Overview
When the fires devastated Los Angeles in January 2025, artists once again stood on the frontlines. They volunteered, organized supply drives, offered free childcare, cooked meals, and supported neighbors who lost everything.
In response, we first collected personal GoFundMe links in a shared spreadsheet, and from that early organizing effort, the Center for Provocative Thought launched the GoFundArtists Relief Program to commission artists who lost their homes, providing financial support and a pathway to rebuild through their work. The journey began with a core belief that getting people back to work across all sectors strengthens communities, and artists are an essential part of that ecosystem.
As we approach the one-year anniversary, we are grateful to share that the GoFundArtists program funded three individual artists and supported one fellow with dedicated residency space at Effie House.

Long-Term Vision
Our long-term vision for the GoFundArtists campaign is to grow this fund into a sustainable resource for ongoing artist commissions. While we are currently focused on supporting artists who have lost their homes, we recognize that many others have been deeply impacted—losing jobs as businesses burn, gigs as events are canceled, and opportunities that not reappear amongst the disaster. The Center for Provocative Thought believes that artists are an essential part of the city’s social and emotional recovery, offering creative outlets, connection, and healing during times of crisis. Supporting artists is not only about rebuilding careers, but also about prioritizing the mental health and well-being of our community as we move forward .
